Books are a fundamental part of JDPP's Moving Matters! residencies. Each year one book is chosen to represent the overall theme that the students focus on to create their class presentations. This year we chose "Change Sings" by Amanda Gorman! A wonderful story about how anything is possible when our voices join together. In the almost 30 years of this program we have explored many powerful stories of hope, acceptance, kindness, and perseverance. #BooksAreFundamental #RightToRead #NationalLibraryWeek
Books are meaningful to all, especially Black readers, who have seen that the freedom to read is a powerful vehicle for social change.” Mellissa Craig, ‘A Response and a Call’ series host and curator, is visiting libraries, senior/community centers to talk with folks and celebrate books. The resulting community conversations are about the important role that books and storytelling play in the lives of people of color. The last such year was 1964, which saw the passage of the Voting Rights Act in the USA. May we all creatively adapt to a changing world and build empathy and abundance for all.
